
Symposium Scene
On the afternoon of May 7, Valentin Isheiskii, Trade Union Chairman (at the level of Vice President) of Saint Petersburg Mining University in Russia, led a delegation of 20 faculty and students on a visit to the School of Mines at China University of Mining and Technology. The two sides held an exchange symposium in Conference Room A509 of the Mining Building. Wen Chen, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges of CUMT, and Yanli Huang, Dean of the School of Mines, attended the meeting. Also present were Yong Yuan, Vice Dean of the School of Mines; Kun Fang, Vice Dean of the International College; and relevant responsible persons from the International Affairs Office of the School of Mines. The symposium was chaired by Yanli Huang.
In her address, Wen Chen stated that the university attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation with Russia and will fully support deeper collaboration in joint talent cultivation, scientific innovation, and academic exchanges. She reviewed the friendly interactions between the two universities dating back to the 1950s, expressed sincere gratitude for the long-term support and assistance provided by Saint Petersburg Mining University, and looked forward to taking this visit as a new starting point to elevate Sino-Russian mining education and technological cooperation to a higher level.
Yanli Huang, on behalf of the School, welcomed Valentin Isheiskii and his delegation. He introduced the School's centennial history, disciplinary development, talent cultivation, research platforms, and international cooperation achievements. He emphasized that the School has always attached great importance to pragmatic cooperation with world-leading mining universities, and that Saint Petersburg Mining University is a traditional and friendly partner of CUMT, with deep friendship and fruitful cooperation. He expressed hope that this event would serve as an opportunity to continuously deepen all-round cooperation with Saint Petersburg Mining University in areas such as talent cultivation, scientific innovation, platform co-construction, and academic exchanges, thereby supporting the university's "Double First-Class" construction and jointly promoting the global mining industry toward a green, intelligent, and high-quality future.
During the symposium, Valentin Isheiskii detailed the disciplinary characteristics, research strengths, and cooperation interests of Saint Petersburg Mining University. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including jointly organizing international summer (winter) camps in the mining field, short-term faculty visits, short-term student practice programs, joint training and exchange of graduate students, joint application for Sino-Russian research projects, organization of international academic conferences, and disciplinary co-development. Extensive consensus was reached.
After the symposium, the delegation visited the National Key Laboratory of Fine Coal Exploration and Intelligent Development, where they learned in detail about the laboratory's research progress and equipment development achievements in intelligent mining, deep resource extraction, mine disaster prevention and control, and other areas. They spoke highly of the School's research platform construction and technological innovation capabilities.
